🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
On the 7th hole of the golf course, north of the tee box. An antique apple tree from the former farmstead. Tart smallish apples, late ripening (early October). Visit at dusk and ignore crabby neighbors.
