Blackberry · Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus)
📍 24761 Chiles Rd, Paola, KS 66071, USA
🗓 Season: July · August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Blackberry: Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus): Deep black and pulls free with zero resistance. Juicy and sweet; no red remaining at the core. Harvest in the morning when cool.
Wild blackberry bushes with thorns grow every summer (June/July). Accessible from the road, but be prepared for thorns, stink bugs, chiggers. Railroad tracks run by there too, trains are loud!
