Stinging nettle

📍 Avoncliff, Bradford-on-Avon BA15, UK
Stinging nettle Public
🗓 Season: March · April · May
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest only the top 4–6 young leaves in spring before flowering. Use gloves — sting disappears completely on cooking. Blanch, steam, or make into soup. Do not eat once plant flowers (gets gritty). Highly nutritious — rich in iron and vitamins.
Late nettle leaf harvests are possible along this stretch of the road because it's cut back earlier in the season; mid-late july and there are still un-flowering nettles. There are also mature nettle almost ready for seed harvest. Additionally, there are the following edible/medicinals near this marker: Yarrow/Achillea millefolium, hawthorn berry/Crataegus, marjoram/Origanum majorana. See the other pin for other edible/medicinals in this area.
