🌳
ginkgo
📍 136 ON-7, Stratford, ON N5A 3H2, Canada
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Female trees only: fleshy, apricot-like fruit falls when ripe, emitting a very unpleasant rancid-butter smell. Wear gloves — the outer flesh causes dermatitis. The inner nut is edible; roast or boil after removing shells. Limit intake (toxins at high dose).
the City of Stratford has many ginkgo trees planted on public property. Many in the downtown core, along Ontario Street, also a few planted on Albert street near the Royal Bank
