🔍 When is it ripe?
Dark blue-black clusters when ripe. Cook thoroughly before eating — raw berries are mildly toxic. Ripe when all berries are dark and clusters hang downward.
This location is an approximation. There are many elderberry trees growing on the narrow land between this Highway 291 and the Spokane River all the way to Tum Tum. Elderberry trees provide elder flowers in spring, fresh elderberries in fall, and dried elderberries on the tree all through winter.
