Black elderberry
📍 260 William St, Stratford, ON N5A 4Y4, Canada
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Clusters of deep purple-black berries; cut entire clusters. Never eat raw — cook thoroughly (destroys sambunigrin). Ripe when all berries on the cluster are uniformly dark and the cluster droops. High in antioxidants; excellent syrup.
Located in the park, along the edge of the Avon river. One small elder tree. Rather spindly, probably a young tree.
