🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
Great pear tree on the side of a rural road. These pears were still a little under ripe at the end of February but they cooked up and bottled nicely. Not sure exactly what type of pear it is because I’d say it was self sown, but they are quite round and half brown and half green...so a bit like a winter nelis pear.
