Rose
🗓 Season: September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Rose hips (swollen seed pods) ripen to red or orange after flowering. Pick when fully coloured and slightly soft. Remove the seeds and hairs inside (irritating). Very high in vitamin C; excellent for syrup, tea, and jelly. Leave some for birds in winter.
Thick patch of wild rose (probably R. virginiana?) along this unofficial path on the east side of the creek. They produce pretty small rose hips, but they are plentiful. Some brambleberries (blackberries mostly) are found in the patch as well, but it's predominantly wild rose.
