Black elderberry

📍 16 Peel St, Hamilton, ON L8R 3A2, Canada
Black elderberry Private but overhanging
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Clusters of deep purple-black berries; cut entire clusters. Never eat raw — cook thoroughly (destroys sambunigrin). Ripe when all berries on the cluster are uniformly dark and the cluster droops. High in antioxidants; excellent syrup.
Big productive elderberry bush, lots of flowers and fruit hanging over the fence and onto the sidewalk. It stains the sidewalk something fierce - help keep the neighbourhood clean!
