American persimmon

📍 1300 S Franklin St, Kirksville, MO 63501, USA
American persimmon
🗓 Season: October · November · December
🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
On Truman State University’s campus, right on the back edge of a commuter lot. The best tasting fruit is often already fallen, but some fall softly to the grass and are still unblemished. Ripe fruit falls at a feather-light tug. Unripe fruit will dry out the tongue.
