🌰
Black walnut
📍 500 E Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99202, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Large black walnut tree. The area does not have many blackberry canes, so little chance of being scratched while harvesting. Season depends on which stage you want to harvest in.
