🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
Three green pear trees in front of three row houses. Owner says they always ripen late, if at all, but a few were ripening in mid-Sept. (Flavor unknown -- used with apples in cider). Usually at least one of three bearing well in any given year.
