Downy serviceberry

📍 1501 State St, New Albany, IN 47150, USA
Downy serviceberry Public
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, dark purple berries. Sweet with a hint of almond. Ripe when uniformly dark and separates easily from the stem.
There are several serviceberries of various sizes along State Street, all on the same side of the road. The one by W. Lewis St. has early-ripening, large & tasty fruit. However, much of the harvest is afflicted with what appears to be cedar-apple rust or some other disease.
