Crabapple
📍 1 Buttonwood Dr, West Grove, PA 19390, USA
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small apples ripen from green to red, yellow, or orange by variety. Very tart raw but excellent for jelly and cider. Ripe when the colour is fully developed and the fruit lifts off with a gentle twist.
I am unsure of the species. There are several trees, planted in a row, along the edge of the fenced-in dog park & community garden. The paved park path runs right alongside them. The fruits are a little smaller than a golf ball, predominately green with a tinge of red, with crisp white flesh inside that oxidizes incredibly fast. They are deliciously tart, and easy to reach for most teenagers/adults. There is an ample amount of fruit, some insect damage noted to the surface of most fruit- but is surface-only.
