🌳
Pecan
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
The green husk splits into four sections and turns brown when ripe. Shake branches or wait for fall. Cure in a cool, dry place for 2–3 weeks. Kernels should be full and not shrivelled.
This is located on Bachman Lake park, public property of the city of Dallas. They are adjacent to Shorecrest Drive, and the walking trail, and there are a few houses/business building across from them. These trees are visible from google street view. There are also some others scattered throughout the park, but this is one of the two spots where there are a bunch of them together. As of July 7, 2015, there are still a dozen or so Pecan trees. They ripen in the fall, and have people picking up the pecans up until January. They produce lots of pecans, and taste good. During the last several months, they (I don't know if the city or who) have destroyed dozens of the humongous trees. I don't doubt they are going to end up killing all of them. Please enjoy while they last!
