Serviceberry
📍 631-601 Pollock Rd, State College, PA 16801, USA
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Many serviceberry trees can be found across campus. Early spring they show pink buds, which turn to white flowers and eventually purple-red berries with crowns. Watch for smooth gray bark and oval leaves.
