Apple
📍 8555 Kalamazoo Ave. SE.
🗓 Season: August · September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
This is apple foraging nirvana. It's a public park which used to be an apple orchard. There are probably 500 apple trees of several varieties. For best picking, bring a ladder and a wagon or dolly to carry your apples, as the best picking is quite far from the parking. I'd also recommend shoes and pants, since there's a lot of brush under the trees. It's worth it, though! I'd recommend walking the park a bit before you decide where to pick, since some areas have easier access than others. I read the park rules and there are no restrictions against picking.
