🔍 When is it ripe?
Rose hips (swollen seed pods) ripen to red or orange after flowering. Pick when fully coloured and slightly soft. Remove the seeds and hairs inside (irritating). Very high in vitamin C; excellent for syrup, tea, and jelly. Leave some for birds in winter.
early setting rose hips (green in late june 2019, but the bush is loaded). it's to the right of the staghorn sumac. access from sidewalk. they say you should wait until a frost to harvest rose hips, but i've harvested when red and they were fine.
