🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
The pear tree is on private property next to the corner of Goddell St and Mason hanging over the side walk. You may see pears laying on the sidewalk and can grab from what hangs over. Warning! This is a busy street and I wonder what the content of exhaust from the cars may accumulate in the pears.
