Black walnut

📍 2615 Centreville Rd, Herndon, VA 20171, USA
Black walnut Public
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Two large black walnut trees next to the cemetery of the old frying pan meeting house. Dropping lots of fruit all oflver the ground. Branches are unreachable to us vertically challenged ones.
