🔍 When is it ripe?
Grape: Berries fully coloured and slightly soft. Stem where it joins the bunch turns woody and brown. Seeds easily visible inside. Sweet throughout when fully ripe — taste from different parts of the cluster as they ripen unevenly. Grapes do not continue ripening after harvest.
Lemon (Citrus): Uniformly yellow skin; heavy for its size. Can stay on the tree for months once yellow. Scratch the skin — a strong lemon scent confirms ripeness.
Sage: Harvest young, grey-green leaves before or during flowering for best flavour. Woody older leaves are less aromatic. Dry well for year-round use. Flowers are edible as a garnish.
As of Jan-23-2021 the Shiso grow abundantly. This was a well-established community garden before becoming abandoned during the pandemic. The Shiso thrive here as well as some of the herbs. There are some veggies that try and grow (cauliflower, tomato, kale) but most are too small to harvest and those that grow are better left for the homeless population that uses this park as shelter.
