Black elderberry

📍 Tuna Creek/Bailey Dr.
Black elderberry Public
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Clusters of deep purple-black berries; cut entire clusters. Never eat raw — cook thoroughly (destroys sambunigrin). Ripe when all berries on the cluster are uniformly dark and the cluster droops. High in antioxidants; excellent syrup.
Large elderberry bushes located just on the bank by the bridge. The bank is steep, but if one is careful, it isn't an issue. Wear plenty of mosquito spray.
