Serviceberry

Serviceberry Private
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
The Cedar Waxwings were nervous that we were harvesting their fruit, but the little trees on the lawn between the sidewalk and the road were prolific! There is plenty for a batch of jam and for the birds.
