🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
There are lots of huckleberry bushes in this vicinity and they will begin to be prevalent in june or so. There are also some salmon berries in here. In fact, the endowment lands is chock full of food. The entry to the park on 16th ave is full of salmon berries, and later blackberries. Salmon berries are in June. Blackberries towards August. Keep your eyes open for trailing blackberries, they taste the best like roses!
