🔍 When is it ripe?
Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Quick drive-by stop in the parking-lot of the school. Perfect ripeness at end of May or beginning of June. About 1" in diameter, quite juicy. Trees are a little high so if you can stand on your car door frame or in the back of a truck you'll have an easier time. A small stepstool would be useful. VERY plentiful in 2020 (maybe because kids are not in school due to COVID?)
