🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
Two pear trees of different varieties, growing through dense evergreen shrub which protects fruit from impact with ground. No apparent attempts at harvest. Overhangs sidewalk. Little to no insect damage. Tough fruit, good even when unripe.
