American persimmon

📍 Commonwealth Boulevard and Hartsfield Road (Eastbound), Tallahassee, FL 32303, USA
American persimmon
🗓 Season: October · November · December
🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
October 5th 2022: A stump remains from a larger single trunk presumably cut some years ago which sent up suckers that have now thickened into multiple smaller trunks. At this time October 5th bearing a moderate amount of fruit, most of which are still on the tree, astringent and not fully ripe yet (odd since other trees are at peak harvest time right now). There are not many fruit on the ground (not even rotting ones); perhaps due to regular harvesting from other visitors. The fruit are on the larger side, and those that are ripe taste better than the SW Capital Circle airport tree.
