🫐
Black mulberry
🗓 Season: June · July · August
🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
There are few Mulberry trees in Tockwotton Park. They are located near the farside of the baseball field at the corner of the walkway that runs by the rear of Vartan Gregorian Elementary school.
To get to them, walk down the walkway into the park from Wickenden St. Walk staight until you get to the end of the baseball field, they are along the back corner of the school, by the highway.
I no longer live in Fox Point, but I have harested these in the past and made some quite tasty pies.
