American persimmon

📍 101 Newbaker Square, Williamsburg, VA 23185, USA
American persimmon
🗓 Season: October · November · December
🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
Around 5 wild persimmon trees (one is a little ways away, maybe 20 feet from the other four). Trees are right over the abandoned railroad. Many are within arms reach, though many branches are tall enough that you'll need a ladder or to shake the tree. Ripe fruit on one of the trees (beginning of October), but most still need a little time.
