Common fig

📍 West Virginia St, San Jose CA
Common fig Public
🗓 Season: June · July · August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Two crops: breba (June–July on old wood) and main (Aug–Oct). Ripe figs hang downward, skin may crack, feel very soft, and often show a drop of nectar at the eye. Colour depends on variety (green, brown, purple). A milky sap at the stem means underripe.
Small fig tree at the end of the big Eucalyptus trees just off Virginia, next to the (ruined) Goosetown interpretive sign. UPDATE June 2015: last September I pruned it heavily, and today 10.7.2015 I got five beautiful perfect figs off it, more plumping up as I speak. UPDATE June 2016: nothing really doing this year despite heavier rains this winter and a little pruning in the winter.
