🌳
Serviceberry
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Three trees behind a fence of an abandoned Catholic school which is easy to climb over via stairs on the east side. Trees are in good health and easier to harvest, but these had lost most of their berries before the street trees on Aberdeen Street. A few weeks prior to my visit, they were full of berries
