Black walnut

📍 2921-2925 SE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97202, USA
Black walnut Private but overhanging
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Corner of homeowner's property, very large tree that overshadows the street. Huge number of black walnuts drop all over the sidewalk and the street.
