🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, oval, dark blue-purple. Intensely tart raw — best after first frost or for cooking. Fully ripe when skin darkens completely and fruit gives to pressure. Excellent for jam and gin.
7-10 tall trees (20ft) on canal side walk stretching up steep embankment. By the time I found them this year a lot of the crop had gone. Could be a large harvest with sheets underneath and shake the tree - would need several people for that!
