🔍 When is it ripe?
Small apples ripen from green to red, yellow, or orange by variety. Very tart raw but excellent for jelly and cider. Ripe when the colour is fully developed and the fruit lifts off with a gentle twist.
Crab apple tree in Slade Gardens overhanging fence at the corner of Ingleborough Street and Robsart Street. Good number of apples on the tree. Contributor picked good quality apples from lower branghes and ground in October 2019. Good taste and healthy colour, most had small amount of rot/ disease to the core of the fruit which was not visible from the outside.
