🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
Apple tree along the last curve of the River Drive off ramp from Interstate 74 in Moline, Illinois. This is state property and the fruit is fair game for the taking. I don't know the quality but I have been driving by this tree and noticing it for years. The marker should be right on the tree. The street view image may have been taken past when the fruit would have been ripe and fallen so you can see the tree in the street view but you may not see the fruit.
