🌳
Pecan
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
The green husk splits into four sections and turns brown when ripe. Shake branches or wait for fall. Cure in a cool, dry place for 2–3 weeks. Kernels should be full and not shrivelled.
This is located on Bachman Lake park, public property of the city of Dallas. They are adjacent to Northwest Highway, and the walking trail, and the Sam's is within viewing distance of the trees. As of July 7, 2015, there are still a dozen or so Pecan trees. They ripen in the fall, and have people picking up the pecans up until January. They produce lots of pecans, and taste good. During the last several months, they (I don't know if the city or who) have destroyed dozens of the humongous trees. I don't doubt they are going to end up killing all of them. :'( Please enjoy while they last! Oh yeah, and you can see the trees on google street view!
