Pawpaw

📍 2058-2156 N Cannon Dr, Chicago, IL 60614, USA
Pawpaw Private
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Green skin turns slightly yellow and gives like a ripe avocado. Custard-like, mango-banana scented flesh inside. Falls at the slightest touch. Very short shelf life — refrigerate and eat within days. Found throughout eastern North America.
Fairly young tree. Decent-sized, very creamy fruits. May not be very productive (2-3 fruits when checked in 2016) but definitely fruit-producing. There are two additional Pawpaws there as well, one small one just to the west and a larger one east across the path, overlooking the outdoor exhibit area. No fruits on any of them that I could see in September '17. Source is within Lincoln Park Zoo; consider asking to speak to their Horticulture department, if you don't want to risk breaking the rules.
