🔍 When is it ripe?
Round, strawberry-textured red or orange fruit. Flowers and last year's fruit ripen simultaneously. Ripe when deep red and very soft; gritty texture and mild sweet flavour. Good for jam and brandy. Overripe fruit ferments on the tree — slightly intoxicating.
This Costco uses lots of strawberry tree bushes all over its parking lot as ornamental plants. All of the bushes with the yellowy orange to orangey red fruits are edible. The fruits are sweet when fully ripe (red) but make sure you wash them first as I have no idea what kind of stuff Costco might spray on them.
