🔍 When is it ripe?
Background skin colour shifts from green toward yellow; seeds turn brown when ripe. Fruit separates from the spur with a gentle upward twist. Aroma develops near the base. Wild Malus fruit is often small and tart — excellent for cider and jelly.
Some sort of apple - I think it is probably a wilding (a discarded orchard apple pip, Malus domestica) so will be a new variety of apple, rather than a true crab apple (Malus sylvestris). Not too bad and can fruit quite well at times.
