🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
in the alley behind these old apartments is a mulberry tree. It's hard to get to it before the birds do but very worth it. It's growing on an empty lot which is technically private property. But the land is vacant and there are no fences. The tree is right up against the alley so it may even be considered public?
