Red-eared slider

Red-eared slider Public
Turtle soup or stew is a great, and cheap, dish. Turtles can be found in all of the creeks and waterways in Bryan, College Station, from soft-shell to snappers. Red-eared sliders, though, are a very populous species and in many areas are pushing out other, less populous kinds of turtles. That said, all turtles play an important part in their ecosystem; never harvest mature turtles or females during the Spring or Summer as they may be breeding. Telling males from females can be easy, females are generally bigger while males generally have longer claws and tails (to hold on to females). Turtles can also build up pollutants if their habitat has been contaminated, so be careful and be concious!
