Grapefruit Private but overhanging
🗓 Season: November · December · January · February · March
🔍 When is it ripe?
Large, yellow to pale orange. Heavy for its size; skin slightly smooth rather than puffy. Can hang on the tree for months once coloured. Taste is the best test — should be sweet-tart, not bitter.
One very, very large grapefruit tree sitting against the 10' fence where the UF Health property meets the neighboring community. Best access is probably through the woods at Bivens Rim, or simply park at the UF Health building and hop the small 3' Fence that surrounds the drainage pond. You should bring a harvesting pole, or be prepared to climb chain link fence- and then the grapefruit tree which has many spines- The fruits grow at least 15' from the ground.
