Rose
🗓 Season: September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Rose hips (swollen seed pods) ripen to red or orange after flowering. Pick when fully coloured and slightly soft. Remove the seeds and hairs inside (irritating). Very high in vitamin C; excellent for syrup, tea, and jelly. Leave some for birds in winter.
Above the Hugo Wolf Park. Edible from when they turn red sometime around summer until spring or even longer. Although I ate the seeds too and felt just fine, I read afterwards, that you're not supposed to eat the seeds because they can contain an itchy substance. Kids sometimes use them to prank others. Only kids. But i think because i ate them when they hadn't been red for too long they where still more juicy and not itchy at all. Decide for yourself. Mahlzeit
