🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
It is in front of the second house from the Dollar General Store and across the street from the apartments. It is right next to the sidewalk and it is always has fallen and rotting fruit on the ground. I always bring an extra bucket to clean up the rotting fruit to feed to my chickens. And bring plastic gloves if you are cleaning up the rotten fruit.
