American persimmon
🗓 Season: October · November · December
🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
At the corner Providence/Rea at the historic Alexander house. There are four trees. They are head and shoulders above any other America persimmons I've tasted in terms of flavor, less seedy, size and productivity. If there was ever a "commercial" American persimmon variety, this tree would be it. I pick them up by the hundreds off the sidewalk for pudding.
