🔍 When is it ripe?
Turns red, yellow, or purple depending on variety; flesh gives slightly under thumb pressure. Taste-test — ripe ones are sweet-tart with little astringency. Drops easily from stem when gently twisted.
A dozen or so plum trees, a mix of yellow, red, and dark purple fruiting varieties. The yellow ones have excellent flavour but poor texture (floury), the red ones are best overall, and the dark purple ones are smallest and remain quite tart but are lovely. Best harvested in early February (before the very hot days) though can be picked as early as late December.
