🔍 When is it ripe?
Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Plum tree by the Farm House Museum. In the fall there are lots of plums. They taste fine, they have thick skin and bland flesh. When you eat the skin along with the flesh it tastes good though!
