Raspberry · Thimbleberry

📍 1889 Harbor Vista Dr, Marquette, MI 49855, USA
RaspberryThimbleberry Public
🗓 Season: June · July · August
🔍 When is it ripe?
Raspberry: Deep red (or gold/yellow for golden varieties) and slides off the receptacle — the hollow centre is the tell. Does not pull: a ripe raspberry separates at a touch. Extremely fragile; use within hours of picking.
Thimbleberry: Flat, dome-shaped, brilliant red berries. Very delicate — falls apart when fully ripe. Eat on the spot; does not travel. Ripe when uniformly red and separates without effort.
There's all sorts of berry bushes along this river. Follow the dirt road back and don't cross the river onto state prison property! (It is marked.) The river is good for trout fishing too.
