🔍 When is it ripe?
Golden-orange colour all over; red blush is fine but green means unripe. Gives slightly under thumb pressure and separates cleanly from the pit. Sweet, floral aroma. Short window — harvest daily once they start colouring.
Fremont-Older was an Apricot and Walnut orchard named after a famous San Fran Newspaper editor. The apricot trees are dying for lack of attention, save them while we can.
The best hiking in the South Bay (don't tell anyone).
Still some good mid-summer apricots, haven't looked for walnuts yet. After going down to the springs and up to the portion of the trail along the ridge, look for apricot trees along the trail and to the west down the hill. on the right right.
