🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
All along Commercial Street is Blackberry bushes. The city cuts them back about once every two or three years. Sometimes can ripen earlier (July) with good summer sun [2015].
All though it is **very dangerous and illegal** the inside of the train tracks provides really good access to good berries as long as you do not ever go during weekday rush hour times to avoid the Trimet WES.
